Let me just start by saying that the enemy did a LOT the last couple weeks to get me to try and rethink my choices regarding our fundraiser this year. I don’t know WHY this specific event comes under such attack every year, but he sure tries hard to disrupt this fundraiser, and he tries even harder to disrupt this Director. However, the faithfulness of God ALWAYS wins. Even in the midst of all the bad “feelings” like anxiety and fear and inadequacy, we show up with what small amounts we have to offer to Christ, and then HE multiplies it beyond what we could ever imagine. I told my board chairman at the start of the event, “there’s not very many people here.” And he replied, “Jeannie, God is here.” He was right. God was certainly in the room.
The video presentation glitched – but of course it did. Humans on that stage sharing their personal testimony is always what the Lord has called forth, and He had His way Thursday night.
Last year we ran out of places to sit AND food to feed people. This year, we had too much of both. Will this event ever be “perfect” by human standards? Maybe not. But I think it was absolutely perfect to God’s – for it truly is in our weakness where HIS strength is perfected.
Our goal was $40,000 – which for second chance ministries is A LOT of funds to raise. Vickie and I have had multiple conversations since Thursday when she began totaling our numbers…. We’ve gone back and forth a couple times with a higher number, then maybe a lower number… but yesterday she had time to sit and total for real. With almost 100 less people in the crowd than last year, and a glitchy video, and a muffled-ish sound system, and dimmed lights when the lights shouldda not been dimmed, we raised about $38,000!!!
That’s like $8,000 MORE than last year AND the most we’ve ever raised at our auction.
God was definitely there.
“Thank you” always feels like it falls short. Your support lets us carry out Christ’s mission of loving a very vulnerable people group, and it continually blows me away that THIS is what we get to do in the world. We get to love in Jesus’ Name. We get to serve and give and help and live a life worthy of the calling we’ve received.
THANK YOU so much for your support!
All glory to God for HE never fails.
Jeannie
